“consistent & wholesome plans
digested by common counsels,
& modified by mutual interests”

— Geo.  Washington, 1796,
to the American citizenry

Convene the
Common Counsels.

Then let the spin doctors spin however they will.

In the end, the people will decide.

If, in these National Unity Common Counsels: the Geo. Washington model that we’re proposing, we can put on display deliberations (that will comprise the counsels) on issues (through whatever mechanisms used by the participants: like statements in live discussions with questioning of and responding to each other — and of questioning of and responding to each other’s expert advisors — through a moderator, or like written statements that would include this questioning and responding from session to session of these counsels, or like any combination of these or other such mechanisms),

and if these Common Counsels will be participated in by multiple campaigns (campaigners) and former campaigns (campaigners), independent of whether a participant is in any party or is in no party (that is to say: even independent of independence),

then these Common Counsels can become a model of how WE the People of the United States of America can address critical issues, as opposed to the current old model in which “debates” are held, only among those within a party, in a kind of gotcha-style gladiatorial fight to determine the champion of that party, who then is sent into the gladiatorial fight against the other party.   This old model obviously brings about only fighting, instead of the people’s common search for solutions, which the Geo.  Washington model enables.

Ironically (or appropriately) enough, President Kennedy and Senator Goldwater (who were friends) were planning a series, around the country, throughout the ’64 campaign, of debates between themselves along the lines of this Geo.  Washington model.   But of course, a bullet put an end to that.
